General Info

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is calling for businesses in Great Britain to make sure they’re COVID-secure as more sectors open their doors this weekend.
Inspectors are out and about, putting employers on the spot and checking that they are complying with health and safety law.
Being COVID-secure means being adaptable to the current guidance and putting measures in place to control the risk of coronavirus to protect workers and others.
There are five practical steps that businesses can take:
Step 1. carry out a COVID-19 risk assessment in line with HSE guidance.
Step 2. develop increased cleaning, hand washing and hygiene procedures.
Step 3. take all reasonable steps to help people work from home.
Step 4. maintain 2m social distancing where possible.
Step 5. where people cannot be 2m apart, manage transmission risk.
In June, the Government changed it emphasis, from what was once a clear message to “stay at home” has now switched to “stay alert”.
With the Government now making it clear that anyone who cannot work from home should be “actively encouraged to go to work”.
Risk assessments are not only a legal requirement, but are a means of identifying the hazards/risks along with suitable controls to either eliminate or reduce those hazards/risks
which have been identified, to ensure employer establish and maintain a, safe and‘ secure place of work.
Companies must consult their employees, or their representatives, during the risk assessment process, to allow either party to have input and ask any questions, to ensure the processes are understood, then implemented.

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR), requires the need to report cases of a person being diagnosed as having COVID - 19 attributed to an occupatinall exposure to the COVOD -19, or deaths from, COVID-19.
